Appache Calculator. A digital tool for muralists.

An in-house R&D project addressing the lack of digital infrastructure in the muralism sector.

Mural artists work at scale, with materials, surfaces, transport, weather and a thousand variables — but the digital tools available to them are practically non-existent. Most muralists still calculate paint quantities and logistics on the back of an envelope, on the day of the job. APACHE is our answer: a web application built in-house by Bozeta to support the professional muralism community. It calculates paint quantities and surface areas, recommends the right number of coats, and helps optimise material logistics — reducing waste, unnecessary transport and the recurring problem of arriving on site with too much or too little. The tool is built by a studio that practices urban art, for the community that practices urban art.

Self-funded, long-term, and built for an underserved cultural sector.

APACHE is the result of several years of in-house R&D, fully self-funded by Bozeta. The product is currently launched and operational, with an active user community and a roadmap of features informed by the artists who use it. It is also, for us, a demonstration of what we believe a design studio can be: not only a service business, but an organisation capable of identifying gaps in a cultural sector and building the digital infrastructure that sector needs. APACHE is one of the projects we are most proud of, precisely because nobody asked us to build it.
