Un baile en el jardín. A public square reimagined by its own neighbours.

How four neighbourhoods of southern Zaragoza wrote their own piece of urban heritage.

The Centro Cívico Distrito Sur — a municipal cultural facility serving Rosales del Canal, Montecanal, Arcosur and Valdespartera — wanted the public square in front of its building to stop being a place of transit and become a place of recognition. They asked Bozeta to design an artistic intervention that would emerge from the neighbours themselves, rather than being delivered to them. Over several weeks in the spring of 2025, we ran co-creation workshops with children, families and residents of the four districts, working together on the visual language, the figures and the story the piece would tell. The community arrived at a contemporary reinterpretation of the Aragonese jota, with the Virgen del Pilar at its centre — a piece of intangible regional heritage translated into the shapes and colours of the people who live around it today.

A neighbourhood landmark, now part of the regional cultural record.

The installation was built on site over three days that remained open to the community — neighbours dropped by to paint, to help, to watch. The inauguration brought together residents of all ages, and the piece has since become a permanent feature of the square. Un baile en el jardín is catalogued in the official registry of Urban Sculpture of Aragón, alongside works by some of the region's most established artists. For Bozeta, the project consolidated a way of working we believe in: art that belongs to a place because the place helped make it.
